Google + Adding Games From Zynga, Rovio to Increase its Social Networking Service


Google Inc. (GOOG), owner of the most frequently used search engine in the world, is adding new games to social networking services from developers like Zynga Inc. and Oy Rovio Entertainment, creators of the hit "Angry Birds."

Google +, the service was inaugurated in late June, will start to gradually roll out today's game features before making them fully available, said Vic Gundotra, senior vice president, engineering at Google in a blog post today. The initial developers include Wooga GmbH, Funzio Inc. and Kabam Inc.

"We want to make playing online games just as fun, and just as meaningful, such as playing in real life," said Gundotra in the blog. "That means giving you control over when you see the game, how you play them and with whom you share your experience. Game on Google + is there when you want them and go when you're not."

Google + is the company's latest effort to help young people competing social networking companies such as Palo Alto, Calif.-based Facebook Inc., the social sites most frequently used. Facebook has attracted users to a site with games from providers such as San Francisco-based Zynga, and Redwood City, Calif.-based Kabam.

Google's services reach 29 million global visitors in July, according to comScore Inc. Google + has reached about 25 million a week before the end of that month.
Virtual Sales of Goods

Game developers such as Zynga usually make most of their money from selling virtual items in the application.

Google, in a promotional offer, would take 5 percent of the cutting in-application purchase, a percentage similar to the prices of all products revenue sharing Google's Web, the company said in a statement e-mail. Facebook currently gets 30 per cent of virtual goods purchases made in the game, through a payment system called the Facebook Credits.

Separately, Facebook said today is improving the way people use applications on its site, making them more attractive to users gaming sites 200 million, according to a blog post. On the top right of the canvas page, which is used for the application, Facebook will now display the bookmarks for the application along with an update on the activities of friends on another game.

Facebook will also provide more space for display applications, according to the blog post. In addition, the company will roll out a new ranking system that aims for a deeper quality of applications shows activity in news feeds.

Google, based in Mountain View, Calif., rose $ 13.12, or 2.4 percent, to $ 562.13 at 4 pm New York time in Nasdaq Stock Market, amid a broad market recovery. Shares have fallen 5.4 percent this year.
